Hole saw arbors for bi-metal and carbide hole saws

The hole saw arbor connects the saw to the machine, and in practice it decides how quickly you get through a run of diameters. The arbor carries the pilot drill, drives the saw and makes sure the cut core comes free once you are through. Choose the shank first. A hex shank fits a drill or cordless driver, while an SDS-Plus adapter belongs with rotary hammer work in hard substrates.

Then check the range. Small arbors are made for hole saws from around 14 to 30 mm, larger versions take diameters above 150 mm, and that limit is hard: an arbor that is too light flexes or lets the saw run out of true. A quick-change system saves the most time when you go through several sizes in a day, because the saw changes without a key. An ejector function pushes the core out without levering, which prevents tearing around the hole in soft board.

Finally, check the thread size of the saw itself, because the mount differs per diameter class and an arbor does not automatically fit every hole saw. For guidance and centring when drilling, look at drill bushing.
